What is the driving route from Angel?

From Angel head north on Upper Street to Highbury Corner, then continue on Holloway Road (A1) north for about a mile and a half.

Upper Street is congested for most of the day. Unless you need the car, the 43 from Islington High Street is usually faster.

Set your satnav to N19 5SE, or open the route in Google Maps. One warning before you go: Holloway Road is a red route, so there is nowhere to stop outside.

Can I get here from Angel without a car?

Angel is on the Bank branch of the Northern line, so despite being on the same line as Archway there is no direct train. The 43 from Islington High Street runs the entire way up Holloway Road to us, which is the simplest option from N1. By car it is around twelve minutes for under three miles, and Upper Street traffic is the reason for the gap between those two numbers.

By rail your options are Angel (Northern line, Bank branch). By bus, the 4 and 43 head this way. Check before travelling on TfL.

What about parking, coming from Angel?

Upper Street is congested for most of the day and the run up to Highbury Corner rarely moves quickly, so this drive is slower than the distance implies. You arrive on the correct side of the A1. Turn off into the Zone P side streets rather than looking along Holloway Road, which is a red route and has no parking of any kind. Controlled hours are Monday to Friday until 6.30pm and Saturday morning. Angel is on the Bank branch so there is no direct tube, but the 43 from Islington High Street runs the entire way to us and is usually faster than driving it.

Full detail on Zone P hours, RingGo, the emissions surcharge and Blue Badge rules is on our find us page, and current prices are on Islington Council’s parking pages.

Questions we get from Angel customers

Can I stop outside the shop to drop a device off?

No. Holloway Road is a TfL Red Route here, so stopping on the red lines is prohibited at all times and enforced by camera. There is no grace period and no drop-off allowance. Use the side streets behind the main road.

When is parking free near the shop?

Zone P is controlled Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6.30pm and Saturday 8.30am to 1.30pm. Outside those hours, including all day Sunday, on-street parking in the zone is generally free.

How do I pay for parking?

By phone, using RingGo. Read the location number off the bay sign rather than looking it up beforehand, because the codes are set per bay and vary from street to street along with the maximum stay.

What is the nearest station?

Angel (Northern line, Bank branch). Archway on the Northern line is the closest station to the shop itself, a few minutes away on foot.

Why is the parking charge higher than I expected?

Islington adds an hourly surcharge based on your vehicle’s emissions on top of the tariff. The diesel surcharge in particular is high enough to notice on a two-hour visit. Check the live price in the RingGo app.
